OnlineTeacher Professional Learning – Difference Differently Program

JCMA currently partners with Together for Humanity to provide professional online learning for teachers and other education professionals under their ‘Difference Differently’ program.

Four free online professional learning courses aimed at increasing diversity competence in education professionals and their students. Using research, best practice examples, video reflections, and interactive activities, the courses provide teachers with an understanding of diversity education and practical strategies for implementing it in schools. There are four courses offered:

1. Introducing Diversity Education

This professional learning course explores participants’ understandings of and attitudes toward diversity. It examines the rationale for diversity education in Australian schools (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: Proficient 4.1 and 6.2). This course is suitable for all school staff, including non-teaching staff.

2. Diversity Education in the Classroom

Using current research and practical examples, this course explores teaching and learning strategies that can be used in the classroom to build students’ intercultural understanding (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: Proficient 4.1 and 1.3). This course is suitable for all teaching staff.

3. Whole School Approaches to Diversity Education

This course examines ways to manage and/or celebrate diversity through whole-school engagement and strategies (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: Highly Accomplished 1.3). This course is suitable for school leaders and teaching staff.

4. Cohesion in Diversity

This new course explores issues related to the teaching and learning of Intercultural Understanding capabilities. NSW Teachers, please note that this new course is not yet accredited by NESA.) This course is suitable for all teaching staff. For Victorian teachers these course can count towards their professional learning hours.
